Thank you very much for your well thought out and very accurate review of the VDT. I thought they did very well with the first film, following the book very closely, and staying true to Lewis's theme. Prince Caspian was a disappointment because they left out the half of the book about Aslan, and showed Peter and Caspian as rivals. Peter's character was thoroughly debased, I thought. The perfect older brother, and the High King of Narnia was reduced to a brawling insecure school boy. What a mess! You said everything there is to say about VDT. What a waste of talent and gorgeous special effects, not to mention all the changes in theme that you discussed. Christianity is very important to many Americans and to take Lewis's great Christian works and reduce them to something like, what, the X-Men?
Anyway, thank you for your review.

How about walking her home like they did in the olden days? I agree with the other post- the herd is for protection.

We are perfectly aware we are in a herd. We do that for protection (and fun). To avoid the awkward parking lot ask out we pretend to be on our phone or in an extreme hurry. If we want to be asked out, we will give you the chance.

I do feel your pain, the fine line between being weird stalker and greatest guy ever is simply the subjective reality of whether or not we like you.

Wow, Jon. Great article. You are saying so much stuff here that needs to be said, but no one is bold enough to say it. I sure don't want to be the guy to have said it. :) More power to you, man.

Eccl. 4:9-12 comes to mind. The pair is stronger because of the Holy Spirit in the midst (assuming both are believers). I think of famous missionary pairs- John and Betty Stam, Elizabeth and Jim Elliot. I do agree on the married couples opening up their homes as a ministry to singles.

Perhaps it's something to consider when choosing your partner - can you and he/she minister to others together? Does what you want for your relationship with both your partner and with your community mesh with what that person wants?

[...] When a guy asks a girl out he’s genuinely interested in something he saw. He asks her out and she says yes. If he doesn’t find any deal breakers on that first date, he’s going to ask for another, most likely. If the girl is simply giving him a courtesy date, that only gives him one chance to be “spectacular.” Considering how nervous most guys are on a first date with a girl they’re even mildly interested in, spectacular just isn’t going to happen.
I advise that you print out copies of this. When you like a girl, you hand her a copy and say, "Read this, and then I have a question for you."
